The Kanishka Foundation is established to serve educational and humanitarian causes in the township of Cranford and abroad. After dedication of the Kanishka Passage, the Foundation will award annual scholarships to 2 students from the Hillside Avenue School and 1 student from Cranford High School starting in 2011. In September 2010, the Foundation has given full financial support of a medical student’s educational expenses in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Kanishka Paul, 31, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at his parents’ home in Cranford, .J. Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Kanishka and his family moved to the US in 1985. He spent his childhood in Semnan, Iran; Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh; Jersey City, N.J.; Jackson Heights, N.Y., and Cranford,  NJ. He graduated from Cranford High School in 1996 and earned his B.S. from Cook College, Rutgers University, in 2000. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry and was expecting his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in December 2010. Kanishka was a beloved son, big brother, and mentor to many of his family and friends. Known for his sense of humor, Kanishka was a selfless individual and went out of his way to help others in need. His spirit will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his parents, Pradip and Rekha Paul of Cranford, NJ and sister Konika Paul Bose and brother-in-law, Shubhro Bose, of Hoboken,N.J.
