Kanishka Passage is a 350 feet corridor that connects a residential neighborhood of Cranford to Hillside Avenue School, an elementary and middle school. This corridor is used daily by hundreds of young students to and from their school. Kanishka Paul is one of the students who walked along this pathway to and from his school between 1990 and 1992. The reconstruction of the pathway has been a long-waited desire of his Cranford parents. Kanishka passed away unexpectedly at his home 52 Mansion Terrace, Cranford on September 14th, 2010 at the age of 31. On the occasion of his birthday on December 15th, 1978, Kanishka’s family desired to make this corridor into a nice, secure and clean pathway for all of the children of Hillside Avenue School and named it the “KANISHKA PASSAGE”.
Mayor Smith, in the presence of the distinguished guests: Deputy Mayor Garcia, Principal Dr. Fogas, Township Engineer Marsden is dedicating this passage today in Kanishka’s name on the occasion of his 32nd birthday.

Kanishka Paul a native of Bangladesh was born in Dhaka in 1978. He received his primary school education in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh and Queens, NY. After 1988, he lived most of his life in Cranford, NJ. After graduating from Cranford High School in 1996, he received his BS in Biochemistry from Rutgers University in 2000. This past year, he fulfilled his dream to become a physician. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from St. George’s University and conferred the title of Kanishka K. Paul, MD. Kanishka was an extremely kind person with an enormous heart; his warmth and playful spirit was contagious. He especially loved kids. As hundreds of our neighborhood children use the passageway to walk to school, Kanishka will smile down on them and envelope them with his warmth.

The Kanishka Foundation is established to serve educational and humanitarian causes in the township of Cranford and abroad. After dedication of the Kanishka Passage, the Foundation will award annual scholarships to 2 students from the Hillside Avenue School and 1 student from Cranford High School starting in 2011. In September 2010, the Foundation has given full financial support of a medical student’s educational expenses in Chittagong, Bangladesh.
We thank you for all of your love and support through this difficult process.

Sincerely,

Dr. Pradip Paul (father)

Mrs. Rekha Paul (mother)

Dr. Konika Paul Bose (sister)

Mr. Shubhro Bose (brother-in-law)
